A team from the University of Lorraine and the CNRS has developed a mapping module associated with the HAL open archives. The “carto-istex” module allows to visualize on a map the international collaborations of the researchers of a laboratory, a scientific pole or a whole University. This open access application has been successfully tested by OTELO on the theme of rare earths.

Today’s researcher, at least in the so-called “hard” sciences, does not go to libraries much anymore to access the work of his colleagues. He finds almost everything online on the Internet and can use multiple sources of digital data. Moreover, the number of publications in each field has become considerable.
