Support to research software

On May 26, 2023, the “Open Science” Steering Committee approved the creation of an “Operational Committee” responsible for defining, proposing and monitoring the implementation of the university’s policy on opening up research source codes and software. This committee includes researchers, documentation engineers, IT specialists and legal and intellectual property experts.

The Software and Code Operational Committee (COLOC) has several objectives: identifying existing open source code, identifying practices and tools, setting up training and awareness-raising events, etc.

The approach taken by the Université de Lorraine to opening up the source code of softwares developed by its research teams is part of an international context, particularly in Europe as part of Horizon Europe, and a national context, particularly as part of the work of the “Source code and software” group of the French National Committee for Open Science, as well as the French government’s determination to identify and promote software developed by its research teams.

As this project gets underway, questions are already emerging:

  • What is the current state of research software source code openness at our institution?
  • What tools contribute to this, with what functionalities, limitations and opportunities?
  • How does this approach fit in with UL’s commercialization policy?
  • How can we do more to find levers and partnerships to promote our production ?

New content will be added to the Code and Software pages as the project progresses.

The COLOC team is available to answer any questions you may have and to collect your suggestions and requirements regarding research softwares (e.g. tools such as GitLab, HAL or Software Heritage). Contact us at .
